Once our vision for the space became more clear, we got right to work. The first thing we knew we had to do was to paint the creamy, beige walls white. Then, the blue carpet in the front window definitely needed to be torn out and thrown in the trash. Luckily, there was the original wood under the carpet and we were able to bring it back to life with a few days worth of hard work and lots of elbow grease…and glue stripper.
Even more lucky for us, Matthew has a really amazing father and brother. They took a trip all the way from Whittemore, MI and spent the weekend with us. During that weekend, they built the slatted walls to separate the storefront and the living room, as well and the three moveable walls that required assembly, and drywall. If you’ve never built walls, let me tell you, it’s a lot of work! And while Matthew and I helped as much as we could, I really have to give those guys props because they helped us so much that weekend. We really would not have been able to accomplish the things we did that weekend in the amount of time we did had it just been us two.
